Wedding Budget Planning
7 Questions You Need to Answer Before Making Your Budget

In the U.S., the average wedding cost is well over $10,000. Before you start wedding budget planning, it's important to look at the big picture for the life you're planning together.

The size of your wedding budget and how much the two of you can afford to spend on your wedding day really depends on the savings and investments that you've made in life up to this point.

But how much you're willing to spend on your wedding depends on the goals you have for the first few years of your marriage.

Before setting a wedding budget, sit down with your fiancé, pull out your notebook and pen and answer these critical questions:

* Do you intend to wait to get married until you have saved enough money for your dream wedding? How long do both of you feel is reasonable to wait to start your life together?
* What type of a honeymoon do you want and when will you take it?
* Do you intend to buy a house as soon as you get married or rent? How long do you want to rent before buying a house? Do you have a rough idea how much you'll need saved for a down payment?
* If one or both of you already owns your own home, will you be selling them and buying another? Do you intend to sell one and keep the other?
* Is there a chance either of you be starting a business during the first two years of marriage or quitting your job to work freelance?
* Do you intend to start a family within two years of the wedding date? If so, will one of you be quitting your job or cutting back to part-time?
* Do you plan to buy property or other investments early in your marriage?

Take your time and thoughtfully answer these questions before determining your wedding budget. These are very important considerations when you're footing the entire bill and do not want to go in debt to get married.

Don't worry about the average wedding cost for everyone else. It's your life. How much you budget for your wedding day has the potential to impact the first few years of your marriage in a positive or negative way. Don't get so caught up in planning the wedding that you forget you're also planning a marriage.
